MOA PRESS RELEASE26th March, 2020Coronavirus (Covid-19) Disease; MOA urges communities to seek information from reliable sources and guide against panicking*LOCAL SITUATION AND CURRENT MEASURES*1.Currently, in Nigeria, we have 51 confirmed cases, of which 32 are in Lagos, 10 in Abuja and the rest are in Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Ekiti, Edo and Bauchi states respectively, 1 have passed away and 2 has been discharged, and most of the rest remain stable for improvement.2. The moment a case is confirmed, Government activate contact tracing to identify close contacts and quarantine them as soon as possible,so as to reduce further spread of the disease.3. Government has strengthened the checks at our airports and borders to detect and isolate cases before coming into contact with the Nigerian communities.4. Also, to reduce the risk of importation, they have stemmed the inflow of travellers by imposing border controls and issue travel advisories to advise Nigerians to defer their travel plans until the situation around the world is under control.5. The government has put in place many measures to reduce imported cases, trace and isolate any such as soon as possible to prevent spread. But everyone of us needs to play our part in practising good personal hygiene, social responsibility and safe distancing measures.Following announcement that all non essential markets venues should be closed from today 26th March for seven days, we are aware a number of residents the closure would be affected and the economic impacts on the mushines. The Lagos State Government decision to enforce stricter safe distance measures aims to significantly reduce the risks of seeding new local Covid-19 clusters, which would strain our healthcare system further. MOA implores all residents to implement all necessary precautionary measures including ensuring a distance of at least a metre between everyone and reduce mingling amongst people. We equally appeal to mushines and lagosians in general to exercise good judgement and social responsibility during this time. This will play an important part in keeping fellow Nigerians and our loved ones safe in the midst of this global pandemic. Finally, we appreciate the two Chairmen, Hon. Emmanuel O. Bamgboye and his counterpart Hon. Rasaq Olushola Ajala; Mushin Local Government Council and Odi-Olowo Ojuwuye LCDA respectively for their efforts thus far in information sharing and awareness at this critical period. We implore them to intensify efforts in domesticating this information gathering and sharing from streets to streets or Ward to Ward level for more awareness and guide against panics and false information. MOA as an entity is ready to partner in this regard, I hope that lagosians and mushines in particular will support these measures and keep the good hygiene habits which will play an important role in our fight against Covid-19.*STAY AT HOME, STAY SAFE!!!*MOA-Mushin Odi-Olowo Agenda.
